“Always be good, so people will love you. Always work hard and do your best.” These were the words of Black Beauty’s mother to her son when he was a young horse. At that time they lived with Farmer Grey. He was a good and kind man. Black Beauty was only son of Lord Westland’s best house. He had black, one white foot, a white star on his face, and some white on his back. He liked the food and kind words. When he got older, he learned to work with Mr. Gordon. In May took him away to Mr. Gordon’s home at Birtwick Part. There were two houses names Ginger and Merry legs. That head groom’s name was John Manly, he live with his family. His wife gave the name for Black Beauty. One day in autumn, after three days of heavy rain. Mr. Gordon and John went to the city with Black Beauty. They came to river. The water was very high under the bridge. When they started for home, the wind was stronger. Suddenly, a tree fell across the road with a CRARH! They had to go on the other road to the bridge. Black Beauty stopped, because something was wrong. There was a horse across the bridge, and a man ran out of the door. “Stop! Stop!” he said. “The bridge is breaking in the middle. Don’t come across it.” John looked at Black Beauty and smiled. “Thank you Beauty” he said. Then one day Mr. Gordon, John and James went to oxford. James was one of grooms at Birtwick Part. He drove Beauty and Ginger. It was a bout seventy-five kilometers. They went about fifty kilometers in one day then they stopped for the night at the biggest hotel in Aylesbury. That night, the hotel was fires, but James helped Beauty and Ginger. James went to work for Sir Clifford Williams of Clifford Hall, and Little Joe Green did him work. One night, Mr. Gordon’s wife was very ill. Beauty got the doctor for Mrs. Gordon. He was much tried and got ill after Little Joe gave a lot of cold water. John put things over him and made him warm, so he was better. Mrs. Gordon often ill, so they moved to the South of France. They sold Beauty and Ginger to Lord Westland at Earls Hall. Mr. York was the boss of that drivers and grooms. When Lady Westland went oust anywhere, York used a bearing rain for Beauty and Ginger. They didn’t like it. Beauty worked with it for four months, it hurt him every day. One day, Reuben Smith, Lord Westland’s younger son went to London with Beauty. He drunk and rode vary fast, and then they had an accident. He was dead. Beauty’s foot was bad too. York sold Beauty to Mr. Jerry Barker’s family. They didn’t know Beauty’s name, so they called Jack for Beauty. Beauty worked hard. He met Ginger by accident. She was tried and thin. The cold weather was bad for Jerry. He sold Beauty to Mr. Thoroughgood and then he took Beauty Rose Hall. One of the women, Miss Ellen, liked Beauty. Her groom, Little Joe, remembered Beauty. This was the last home for Black Beauty.
